Soaring Eagles: Golf Sustainability Meets Local Governance
Max McWilliams, rising senior from West Austin Texas, has set flight to fight environmental defacement on the golf course. From shooting eagles on his municipal course and school team, Max has graduated to advocating to local and state leaders for bills supporting preservation – demonstrating his dedication to the country through the values of the country’s emblem.
It all began when he saw an abundance of plastic bottles trashed over the luscious, green courses. Over time, Max worked toward a vision for recycling the bottles into other forms through newly established programs as well as recycling lightly-used golf equipment.
He then expanded his reach by pitching his idea to the Green Sports Alliance, where he became their first high school youth ambassador. Max also reached out to Texas state legislation, including Senator Nathan Johnson, where Max was successfully able to draft bills for greater sustainability. Max hopes his efforts will serve as an inspiration to continue the sustainability initiatives nationwide. His work is a testament to the abilities of youth to make a true impact.
